A shocking revelation has rocked the art world, with the COO of Atlanta's renowned High Museum of Art, featured in popular films and TV shows, resigning amidst allegations of a massive theft.
The High Museum's COO, Brady Lum, is accused of stealing a staggering $600,000 over several years. This scandal has sent shockwaves through the art community, leaving many questions unanswered.
But here's where it gets controversial...
According to Hala Moddelmog, president of Woodruff, the company overseeing the High, Lum is suspected of acting alone and abusing his executive position to access and conceal the stolen funds. She stated, "We believe Lum took advantage of his role to gain access to the money and keep it hidden for years."
The exact source of the stolen funds remains a mystery, but the museum's donors have been promptly informed.
And this is the part most people miss...
The US Attorney's Office in Atlanta is yet to decide on pressing charges, leaving the legal outcome uncertain.
Lum, who tendered his resignation on December 9th, had a distinguished career prior to joining the High in 2019, including roles at Coca-Cola and Special Olympics International. In 2014, he was appointed Senior Vice President of Coca-Cola/Keurig Ventures North America.
The High Museum, home to over 20,000 art pieces, has gained fame through its appearances in "The Resident" and the blockbuster Marvel film "Black Panther." In "Black Panther," the museum transformed into the fictional Museum of Great Britain, where a pivotal scene saw Erik Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue conspiring to steal precious African artifacts.
Similarly, the museum served as the setting for Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in "The Resident."
Additionally, the Apple TV+ series "Cape Fear" filmed near the High last May, with locals forewarned of the film crew's presence.
Lum has not responded to requests for comment.
